Permanent exhibitions

So called Hundsgugel, a special form of helmet (15th century) © Bayerisches ArmeemuseumThe Museum’s permanent exhibitions give the visitor an insight into the history of war and the army from the late Middle Ages (15th century) to the end of the First World War in 1918. The Museum is devoting increasing attention to the impact of military conflicts and violence on society. The range of exhibits is very diversified: besides weapons and uniforms, all types of military gear, flags, orders and models of large pieces of technical equipment are on display, but also paintings, musical instruments, artwork produced by soldiers as well as large-scale dioramas with thousands of tin figures, recreating historical battles. Major focus is placed on the history of Bavaria, but many sections go well beyond this scope.
